Here's another post from our 2 week stay in a village about 3 hours from the city...
This is a "Riang" bug.
Riang means "happy" or "fun"
It's basically a cross between a Palmetto bug (in Florida...very noisy bugs in trees that make noise at dusk) and a cockroach. It flies around very crazy-like, like its having fun.
You must know that, thanks to a combination of the fact that roaches are gross and my mom is scared to death of them and instilled a healthy dose of fear in me for roaches, the "Riang" wasn't what I called fun.
Between our host holding it (and subsequently taking it outside and releasing it instead of killing it which was my recommendation) the Riang bug flew back inside and into my hair. Needless to say the family we were staying with got a good show of a white lady freaking out!
Then my wonderful husband lost his mind...

what a crazy bug! it sounds like a table saw!!
Yeah, but I bet they don't have a cow-ant!
Kill the bug. I say kill all the bugs. Kill them with Raid, kill them with Orkin, kill them with your grandaddy's pointy-toed cowboy boots. I don't care, just kill them.
What in the world! If you ever have a bug that's able to scream back at you, always kill the bug. I don't care how big of a skid mark he leaves. We have them here too and they are so disgusting. I kill every one I can catch.
Thank you and have a nice day!
That's gross!!! did it ever get killed? that would have definitely been my vote!!!!
I definitely agree with Doug! There are probably trillions of insects on this planet...if we kill as many as we possibly can, it won't even make a serious dent, so go for it!! That thing is scarier than most bugs I've seen here in Florida, fo sho!
haha! That bug is LOUD!!! haha! It's definitely a fun bug! :)
Step on it, for Pete's sake! Forget being humane when it comes to bugs!
ewww gross. it's so friggin loud!
What a bizarre bug!I'm impressed that you got close enough to get such a good video! You are way braver than me!! I flinched and I'm on the other side of the world!!
Thanks for the advice! We ended up sending a guy through the ceiling and he came out on the other side to unlock the door to get everybody else in...we'll have to remember to ask Elbert for the key next time!
